Carrington's Late Trey Topples Tribunes

NORTH EAST, Md. - Nick Carrington's three-pointer with five seconds to go tilted the scales in Cecil's favor, as the Seahawks completed their comeback to defeat Monroe 82-81.

Cecil came away with the victory despite posting its worst field goal percentage (33%) of the year. However, the Seahawks buried two more shots from deep than the Tribunes and nine more free throws to claw their way to a win. Cecil also slightly outrebounded the Tribunes, 49-46.

Despite their shooting issues, Cecil had three players finish with double-doubles. This included Vernon Simmons, who led the Seahawks with 15 points while collecting 10 rebounds. Marlon Lewis also had a strong night and chipped in 13 points while also grabbing 10 boards. Jordan Strickland led the Seahawks with 12 boards and dropped 11 points.

The Seahawks have now won three straight and move to 9-5 on the season.

Turning Point

Carrington's late dagger from deep was prempted by a back-and-forth final stretch of the second half. The action was turned up a notch when Vernon Simmons layup tied the game at 74-74 with 2:24 left. The sophomore's basked ignited a hectic stretch which held four lead changes, ending with a last second heave by Monroe that sailed wide of the basket as time expired.
