Seahawks Bounce Back with Upset of No. 4 Chesapeake College

The Cecil College men's basketball boucned right to the win column on Saturday with an upset victory over #4-nationally ranked Chesapeake College by a final score of 96-73. The Seahawks were in a tight battle in the first half but a late second-half run that extended well into the second half securted the win for the Seahawks. Win this win, the Seahawks stole the first place spot in the NJCAA Region XX DII standings from the Skipjacks with a perfect 8-0 record against region division opponents.

The Skipjacks were led by Mahzi Thames with 20 points and 5 assists. Craig Turner added 19 points in the loss.

Sophomore forward Darell Johnson recorded a his fourth double–double during the month of February for the Seahawks with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore forward Khalid Gates recorded 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds while freshman forward Jacob Valeus added 15 points and 3 rebounds off the bench for the Seahawks.

The Cecil College men's basketball team is left traveling to two regular season contests to finish off the 2021-2022 regular season. The Seahawks travel to face the Cougars of Frederick Community College on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. and the Lions of CCBC Dundalk on Saturday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. Both contests will count toward Region XX DII standings.
