Seahawks Defeat Two at Monroe College Invitational and Climb to #13 in the Nation

The Cecil College men's basketball improved their record to 12-1 on the season over the weekend after defeating Monroe College – Bronx 93-59 on Saturday and Monroe College 91-76 on Sunday. The Seahawks competed in the Monroe College Invitational and earned two hard fought victories that helped them to climb up two spots to #13 in the NJCAA DII men's basketball national rankings.

Monroe College – Bronx was led by Issac Johnson with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Also, Chad Duke contributed with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

In Saturday's contest, sophomore forward Khalid Gates had a team high 14 points and added 6 rebounds. Freshman forward Marlon Lewis played a key role off the bench adding 10 points in the win. Freshman forward Jacob Valeus contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Seahawks.

The following day, Monroe College had major contributions from Melvin Council Jr. and Nikola Danicic. Melvin finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Nikola added 16 points and 8 rebounds.

For the Seahawks, sophomore guard Hassan Corbin played all forty minutes and recorded a double–double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Khalid Gates added 15 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Darell Johnson was one rebound shy away from a double – double, but finished the game with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Cecil College men's basketball team looks to extend their winning streak to eleven games when they host College of Southern Maryland on Saturday, January 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in North East, Md.
