Ringgold Marks Fourth Sophomore to Continue Career at NAIA Level

Sophomore forward, Shylier Ringgold, from Cecil College men's basketball, signed a Letter or Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at NAIA-sponsored Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. Ringgold signed his letter of intent at the conclusion of Cecil College's summer basketball camp, surrounded by the participants he mentored for the week.

Ringgold will transfer to Union College after two successful years as a Seahawk. Ringgold started in 19 of 35 games played during the 2018-2019 season, while averaging 9.9 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. He had a career high 18 points, where he shot 42.9% from the floor and 100% from the free throw line, in the Seahawks' win over Monroe Community College on December 14.

Ringgold helped the Seahawks earn the title of NJCAA Region XX DII Champions after their 91-73 win over #1 seeded Potomac State College of WVU. After starting their season 2-8, the Seahawks made the necessary turn around with a win over Monroe Community College on December 14 and eventually went on to win 15 of their next 16 games, including an eleven-game win streak. The region tournament victory qualified the Seahawks for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament where they entered the tournament as the 14th seed out of 16 programs. Cecil College went on to upset the #3, #11, and #4-seeded teams to finish their season with an overall record of 24-12 and ranked 3rd in NJCAA Division II.

Union College competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and finished their 2018-2019 season with a 26-7 overall record and finished 18-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs' season came to an end with a loss in the first round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Union College was crowned with an NAIA Championship in the 2017 season.

Ringgold marks the fourth member of the 2018-2019 Cecil College men's basketball team to continue their careers at the NAIA level.
