Cecil Hands Harford First Conference Loss in OT

Cecil College men's basketball handed conference rivals, the Fighting Owls of Harford Community College, their first loss in MD JUCO in a thrilling overtime battle. With the 97-93 victory, the Seahawks improved to 7-9 overall and picked up their second conference win (2-5).

The Seahawks and Fighting Owls battled in an strikingly even contest that experienced 13 different ties and 16 different lead changes during regulation and one overtime period. Freshman guard Hassan Corbin put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first by scoring the contests' first two buckets including a made shot from beyond the arc and an offensive board along with a tip-in. The Fighting Owls were able to get their offense rolling and the two teams found themselves tied at 15 at the 12:08 mark in the first half.

The half ended with Harford holding on to a 42-34 advantage as both teams headed to the locker room. A three-point shot from McKale Williams, made lay up from Jacob Falko, and three-point play off an "and-one" from Cornell Corbin to start the second half tied the game 42-42 at the 17:49 mark.

Cecil College gained momemtum with 3:42 left in regulation when Kamden Stubblefield dished out an alley-oop pass to sophomore forward Shylier Ringgold for a made dunk. But, the last two minutes proved to be the most critical as Jacob Falko was fouled while driving to the basket. He was awarded two free throws which led to a Harford technical foul, followed by an ejection, giving Falko, the Seahawks' most efficient free throw shooter, six attempts at the free throw line. He buried five of the six and eventually went on to shoot 24-for-27 from the line on the night.

The Fighting Owls were able to come back within two points, but another technical foul and four made free throws from McKale Williams sealed the 97-93 victory for the Seahawks. Jacob Falko tallied a career-high 32 points, including 24 from the foul line, and added seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Hassan Corbin added an additional 18 points and three steals followed by Shylier Ringgold with 12 points of his own. Cornell Corbin, McKale Williams, and Kamden Stubblefield combined for 20 more of the Seahawks' points while Stubblefield also added four assists.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, January 19 when they host the Hawks of Hagerstown Community College, a MD JUCO and Region XX DII rival. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
