Cecil College men's basketball snapped their eight-game losing streak with two wins as the host of the Cecil College Holiday Tournament over the weekend. The Seahawks were victorious in two close matches against Monroe Community College (Rochester, Ny.) and Cuyahoga Community College (Cleveland, Oh.).

The Seahawks faced the Tribunes of Monroe Community College for the second time this season, previously suffering a six-point loss on November 10, on opening night of the annual Holiday Tournament. This time, Cecil College came away with a much-needed eight-point win after dropping their last eight contests. In a competitive battle, the Seahawks and Tribunes traded leads and ties nine different times.

The Seahawks bench players made a huge impact in the win, outscoring the Tribunes' bench 54-21. Three of Cecil College's highest scorers of the night - Shylier Ringgold, Darell Johnson, and Khalid Gates - came off the bench. Ringgold led in scoring with 18 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Johnson with 16 points and nine rebounds. Gates tallied 11 points in just seven minutes of action on the court.

Just a day later, Cecil College pulled off their second win of the weekend over 13th-ranked in NJCAA DII, Cuyahoga Community College. Cuyahoga suffered two losses to unranked opponents, after being defeated by CCBC Dundalk on Friday.

In a defensive and low-scoring battle, each team took less than 30 attempts from the floor. The Seahawks shot 43% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc to secure a 58-54 upset. Freshman guard McKale Williams led in scoring with 11 points and was 3-4 from the 3-point line. Williams leads the squad with 25 made shots from beyond the arc and is currently shooting 49% from three.

Cecil College's disciplined defense comitted only four fouls in the second half, sending Cuyahoga to the free throw line only twice in the last 20 minutes of action.

The Seahawks return to action before the holiday break on Wednesday, December 19 when they host the Falcons of Lackawanna College. The Falcons were previously ranked 18th in NJCAA DII national polls before dropping out of the top 20 in the latest poll. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
