Men's Basketball Wins Big in Home Opener

Cecil College men's basketball cruised past Delaware Technical Community College, by a 41-point margin, in their home opener of the 2018-2019 season. The Seahawks improved to 2-1 overall as they prepare for two more competitive non-region and non-conference match ups at the Murph Shapiro Classic hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, Ny.

Delaware Technical Community College opened up scoring on Tuesday night with two made three-point shots, but the 17:25 mark in the first half would be the last time the Seahawks would trail for the remainder of the match up. An offensive rebound and put back by Hassan Corbin, a steal and fast break dunk from Cornell Corbin, and a made shot from beyond the arc by McKale Williams put the Seahawks up 7-6 in the opening minutes, which helped their team spark a run that would outscore Delaware Tech 47-21 in the remaining minutes of the first half.

Cecil College went on to score the first twelve points of the second half and led by as many as 44 points, off two made free throws by freshman guard Montaze Jefferson. The Seahawks held on to their lead to secure a 96-55 victory in home opener. Cecil College was able to capitalize off Delaware Tech turnovers and second chance opportunities, which combined for 54 of the Seahawks' total points.

Freshman guard/forward Khalid Gates led Cecil College in scoring with 19 points, including three made baskets from beyond the arc and six rebounds. Darrell Jenkins and Jacob Falko came off the bench effectively for the Seahawks and combined for 21 points and seven rebounds in the victory. Sophomore leader Cornell Corbin contributed all over the floor with seven rebounds, dished out five assists, caused three turnovers, and blocked three shots for Cecil College.

Cecil College men's basketball returns to action when they travel to Monroe Community College on November 10-11. The Seahawks are scheduled to face the Tribunes at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 and the Generals of Sullivan County Community College on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the annual Murph Shapiro Classic.
