Seahawks' Sophomore Day Spoiled by Titans

The Cecil College men's basketball team suffered a 90-74 Region XX loss to the Titans of Community College of Beaver County on "Sophomore Day". The Seahawks fall to 13-15 overall and currently occupy in the third spot of the NJCAA Region XX Division II standings, out of ten men's basketball programs.

Unable to get their shots to fall for the majority of the contest, the Seahawks trailed the Titans in the games' entirety. In a slow start for both teams, the Seahawks gave up the games first four points before Jordan Griggs was able to lay in a fast break lay up two and half minutes into the game. The Titans' held the Seahawks scoreless for the next six minutes, while going on a 10-0 run. Sophomore guard Caleb Johnson was able to end the Seahawks scoreless drought with a made three pointer, but still trailed 14-5.

Cecil College experienced their fewest first half points, plagued by shooting 25.8% from the floor and 22.2% from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Cornell Corbin lead the Seahawks statistically with 18 points and eight rebounds, followed by an additional 18 points from Jordan Griggs. Freshman guard Jonathon Falko added 15 points, three steals, and fast break block that prevented a Titans' basket. Twelve of Falko's 15 points came from his 100% free throw percentage on the day, marking him the teams' most accurate free throw shooter.

Despite the loss to the Titans, the Seahawks celebrated the outstanding athletic and academic careers of their six sophomore members. Among them include Brandon Sherman, Keyon Givens, Jordan Griggs, Lionel Batson, Caleb Johnson, and Gregory Alexander.

The Seahawks remain with two regular season games before entering the NJCAA Region XX Tournament. Men's basketball returns to action on Tuesday, February 27 as they travel to Manor College for a non-conference contest.
