Seahawks Hold On To Early Lead Over Garrett

Cecil College men's basketball held on to their early lead to defeat the Lakers of Garrett College by a two-point margin. The Seahawks handed the Lakers their second conference loss of the season helping to land themselves in the fourth spot in MD JUCO standings, consisting of fifteen men's basketball programs. Cecil College improves to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Caleb Johnson's made three pointer during the first play of the game gave the Seahawks' the initial edge. Sophomore Greg Alexander followed with two more shots from beyond the arc and a jump shot in the paint to put the Seahawks up 11-0. Alexander picked up his first seven points, of twenty, in the first two minutes of the game to force a Garrett College time out.

Cecil College took their largest lead of 25 with 7:13 remaining in the first half off a made 3-pointer from freshman guard Jonathon Falko. The Seahawks headed into halftime shooting 35% from the floor, 43% from 3-point range, and a 42-39 lead with twenty minutes to play.

Although the Lakers never took the lead, they were able to cut the margin to two points with just over one minute on the clock. Forced to foul, the Lakers put two of the Seahawks' best free throw shooters on the line. Freshman guards Jonathon Falko and Kamden Stubblefield were able to secure the game with four made foul shots during the crucial time.

All nine Seahawks that entered the game were able to put points on the board, six of which were in double-digits. Greg Alexander led the way for Cecil College with twenty points, followed by a season-highs from Keyon Givens and Jonathon Falko.

Men's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to face the Dragons of Howard Community College with hopes of capturing their third-straight conference win.
