Basketball Opens Season 0-2 at Dundalk Mixer

Cecil College men's basketball opened their season with two losses at the CCBC Dundalk Mixer on November 3 and November 5 against Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) and ASA College. The Seahawks trailed the Bobcats of Bryant & Statton by a close score of 81-77 and slipped away from the Avenger's of ASA College in the final few minutes by a final score of 79-71.

Free throw percentage and team turnovers proved costly in both losses. The Seahawks went 17-30 (56.7%) from the free throw line with 15 turnovers in the loss to Bryant & Stratton on November 3. Unable to recover these numbers, the Seahawks went 17-32 (53.1%) from the line with 17 team turnovers just two days later against ASA College.

Against the Bobcats, the Seahawks were lead returning sophomore guard Jordan Griggs and freshman point-guard Cornell Corbin. Griggs registered 18 points, including one three-pointer, and was the only Seahawks to be perfect from the free throw line. Corbin added 17 points in his first career game along with four assists and four steals. Freshman forward Jaqualyn Kelly dominated the boards with a total of nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end.

Freshman forward Carl Bradley came alive against ASA College after going 5-9 from the floor and 6-9 from the free throw line, giving him a total of 16 points against the Avengers. Corbin added another 15 points, followed by Griggs with 13 points.

The Seahawks return to action in their home-opener on Tuesday, November 7 against the Tribe of Delaware Technical Community College with hopes of capturing their first victory of the season. Tip off for the men's game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
