No. 5 Cecil Falls to No. 4 Knights
BALTIMORE - Cecil College baseball had its 2025 season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon, falling to CCBC-Essex in the opening round of the Region 20 Division 2 Baseball Tournament.
Cecil took an early 3-0 lead off of a pair of RBI singles and a fielding error. The Seahawks held off the Knights in the first, but could not capitalize further in the top of the second. Essex put two on to start their half of the frame, then scored runs on four of the next five at-bats to take the lead. The Knights ended the frame with a base-clearing single to give the hosts a 7-3 advantage.
The Seahawks fought to get back into the game over the next few innings, but could only muster up one run during the middle innings. Essex scored twice during this stretch to make it 9-4. Cecil's bats woke up in the seventh.
Franco Riposo (2 RBI) sparked the rally with a double down the line, with Hunter Sipel scoring two more on a single three batters later. However, the Knights changed pitchers and struck out the next two batters to leave the Sehawks trailing by a run. Essex went on to sit down the Seahawks in order over the final two frames, scoring two runs along the way to boost the Knights to victory.
Cecil ends the season with a 28-25 record, their most wins since 2015.
