Cecil Grabs Split with Potomac State

NORTH EAST - Ben Campbell tossed six innings of shutout baseball, propelling Cecil College baseball to a win over Division 1 foe Potomac State in Sunday's closing contest.

After splitting their series, the Seahawks are now 16-13.

Game One - Potomac State 5, Cecil 0

The Seahawks were blanked in the opener, reaching base just five times in a losing effort.

Christian Crutch picked up two hits and one stolen base to lead the effort. Cecil's poor offensive output otherwise wasted a nice performance from starting pitcher Colin Shea (1-2). The freshman right-hander gave up just two earned runs over seven solid innings.

Game Two - Cecil 7, Potomac State 4

Jimmy Garrett's snag at the wall held off a last inning comeback attempt from Potomac State, leaving Cecil with a split of Sunday's twin bill.

Normally featuring as an infielder or reliever for the Seahawks, Ben Campbell (2-0) got the start from the mound for the first time in his career. The sophomore made the most of the opportunity, striking out a quartet of Catamounts while allowing just two hits and two walks.

Gio Malatesta led the Seahawks offense with three hits and two RBI. Christian Crutch stayed hot with a walk and a double, while Chris Woods mimicked his effort.
