CSM Tops Cecil in Home Finale

NORTH EAST - Cecil baseball competed at home for the final time in 2024, falling 5-2 and 5-3 to the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Hawks.

The Seahawks finish with a 6-16 record at home this season.

Game One - Southern MD 5, Cecil 2 - Box Score

Four extra-base hits tilted Tueday's opening contest in the Hawks favor.

The visitors held Cecil off the board for six innings while pulling together five runs of their own. Hunter Sipel finally broke through for the Seahawks with a home run to centerfield. A fielding error plated Cecil's second run of the inning, but poor base running also put another out on the board. CSM then struck out the next batter to end the game.

John Smith took the loss on the mound, striking out a pair of hitters over five frames.  

Game Two - Southern MD 5, Cecil 3 - Box Score

Two runs in the fourth proved to be the difference in the second game of the day, as the Hawks pulled off a sweep of Cecil.

Both teams received quality outing from their respective pitching staffs. Cecil starter Hunter Sipel kept CSM quiet for three innings before allowing a pair of runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Chad Francis got the call from the bullpen to start the sixth and tossed two scoreless frames. 

Justin Weaver, Justin Cordero, and Franco Riposo drove home the fifth inning runs for the Seahawks. The Seahawks struggled on offense outside of the fifth frame, stranding runners in scoring positon twice while going down in order three times.

Weaver topped Cecil with two doubles, while four additional Seahawks had one hit each.
