Seahawks Fight Back, Steal Game Two

HAGERSTOWN - Cecil baseball made a pair of comeback efforts on Thursday against Hagerstown. The Seahawks first push ultimately failed in game one, while the second landed them a split on the day.

Cecil's record moves to 7-15 on the season after today's results.

Game One - Hagerstown 10, Cecil 7 - Box Score

Early runs from Hagerstown ended up being the different in the opener, as the Hawks held on to defeat Cecil, 10-7.

The Seahawks trailed 10-2 heading into the seventh. Kenny Scottborgh sparked the rally with a single and was later joined by Christian Crutch via error. Freshman infielder Justin Weaver was next, mashing a triple to center that scored two. Justin Cordero's single drove home Weaver, then Gamber reached on Hagerstown's second error of the inning.

A strikeout put Cecil down to their last out, but Colin Brosh's double plated a pair of runs to pull Cecil within three. A third Hawks error put on Ben Campbell, but Scottborgh struck out to end the comeback.

Weaver and Brosh topped the Seahawks with two hits each. Bailey Shindle homered for his lone hit of the game.

Hunter Sipel (3-3) took the loss on the mound.

Game Two - Cecil 6, Hagerstown 3 - Box Score

Cecil utilized yet another late offensive surge in game two, scoring all six of its runs in the final two innings to upend Hagerstown.

An RBI base knock from Justin Cordero drove home Hunter Sipel to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth. The Hawks answered by scoring a pair of runs with two outs before a comebacker to John Smith silenced their bats. 

A pair of singles sandwiched around an out put two on to begin the seventh. Christian Crutch tied the game in the next at-bat, cranking a pitch to left center that scored two and planted him on third. Hunter Sipel's walk gave way to Justin Weaver and the freshman put a ball over the centerfield wall to put the Seahawks ahead by three.

Smith (1-5) sat Hagerstown down in order in the bottom of the seventh to grab his first victory of the year.
