Cecil Tames Lions, Earns Postseason Birth

BALTIMORE, Md. - Heading into Thursday, the Seahawks needed to sweep CCBC-Dundalk in order to make the postseason. Cecil did just that, taking down the Lions twice to earn a spot in the Region 20 Division 2 Tournament. 

Cecil moves to 22-28 with the victories. 

Game One - Cecil 12, CCBC-Dundalk 4 - Box Score

Cecil produced 12 runs on 12 hits and a pair of Dundalk errors, leading to a lopsided defeat of the Lions in the opener.

Jesus Ramos (3-4) took the victory with a season-high nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

The Seahawks got hot early, plating three runs in the first for an early lead. Cecil picked it back up again in the third, as a three-run blast by Davis Jenkins and an Evan Slaybaugh sac fly boosted its lead to 7-0.

Dundalk pull within three again after scoring all four of its runs in fifth. The Seahawks responded with a five-run top of the sixth to pull ahead by eight. Vinnie Kershner stepped in to relieve Ramos in the sixth, haulting a one-out rally by the Lions in the sixth before putting them away for good in the final frame.

Sael Flete led the Seahawks with three hits, while Jenkins topped the team with five RBI. 

Game Two - Cecil 9, CCBC-Dundalk 8 - Box Score

The Seahawks hung on to win a wild game two, pulling off a 9-8 victory to end the day.

Dundalk held the advantange early, leading 5-2 after three innings. Neither team would score in the third or fourth.

Cecil's offense went off in the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits and an error. The effort was headlined by a two-run home run by Sael Flete that put Cecil ahead 7-5.

A solo homer for the Lions pulled them within one in the fifth. After a single to the next batter, the Seahawks made a switch to put Dylan Byler on the mound. Byler stopped the bleeding and kept Cecil ahead for the next two innings.

Cecil's offense chipped in one run in the sixth and seventh, including a wild pitch that plated Gio Malatesta to boost their lead to 9-6. Byler (S,2) would come back out for the seventh and surrendur two runs before collecting the final three outs of to end the game.

Flete posted big numbers again in the second contest, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI. Byler and Malatesta collected two hits each.
