Seahawks Swept by CSM

LA PLATA, Md. - The Seahawks were dealt two losses by the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Hawks last Saturday, falling 5-3 in both contests.

After the pair of defeats, Cecil now sits at 18-24 (6-10 Region 20).

Game One - CSM 5, Cecil 3 - Box Score

A six-run fifth spoiled a gem from Kyle Stively, as the Seahawks fell 5-3 in the opener. The freshman right-hander tossed a no-hitter through five frames that included eight strikeouts.

Cecil's offense picked up its first run the fifth on a sac fly. A wild pitch and an RBI single by Dylan Byler put the Seahawks up 3-0 after five.

Stively began to struggle in the sixth, walking the first batter before plunking the second to put to on for CSM. A flyout would put one away, but the next Hawks batter would homer to tie the game.

The Seahawks would yank Stively for Nate Ewing, but the sophomore could not hold off the Hawks and allowed two more runs before the inning ended.

Lane Weismiller started the seventh off with a single, forcing CSM to change pitchers. A single from Kevin Gamber advanced Weismiller to third, but Gamber was caught advancing to second for one out. A strikeout to the next batter put two away, leaving the game up to Sael Flete. The Cecil lefty punched a ball to deep center, but the Hawks nabbed it at the wall to steal the victory.

Game Two - CSM 5, Cecil 3 - Box Score

Cecil fell victim to deja vu in game two, falling by the same 5-3 scoreline to the Hawks.

CSM carried over its momentum from the first game, scoring two runs in the first to take an early lead.

Much like game one, the Seahawks did all of its scoring in one inning. A bases loaded walk plated the first run in the third, then a two-RBI single off the bat of Davis Jenkins gave Cecil the lead. A pair of flyouts closed out the inning.

The Seahawks advantage would be short-lived, as a home run to start the bottom third tied the game at 3-3. Two hits and a fly out later and CSM grabbed a 4-3 advantage before being retired.

CSM grabbed insurance with an RBI single in the fifth. Cecil's offense was quiet the rest of the way, registering just two walks and one single over the last four frames.
