Seahawks Hitting Propels 3-1 Series Win Over Sullivan County

The Cecil College baseball team played a competitive series Saturday and Sunday against Sullivan County Community College. The Seahawks played well both days taking three out of the four games.

In the first game on Saturday, Cecil was in a tight battle throughout 5 innings, until the Seahawks erupted for 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth. However, Sullivan answered back in the top of the seventh with 8 runs to tie the game going into the bottom of the seventh. Cecil threatened in the bottom of the seventh and walked off on a wild pitch that scored Lane Weismiller to win 15-14. Shortstop Giovanni Diaz went 2-4 with 1 RBI for the Generals. Freshman second baseman Dylan Byler had a huge day for the Seahawks going 4-5 that included 3 doubles and 2 RBI. Freshman catcher Isaiah Livingston went 3-4 with 1 RBI in the win.

In the second game, the Seahawks were tied with the Generals going into the bottom of the fourth 2-2, until Cecil scored four runs in the inning and added another run in the bottom of the sixth to win 6-2. Freshman starting pitcher Kyle Stively was dominant for the Seahawks in the win going all seven innings only giving up 2 runs and striking out eight. Starting pitcher Joshua Perez earned the loss for the Generals allowing four runs. Freshman catcher Garrett Worthington went 2-3 with 1 RBI in the win. Freshman second baseman Dylan Byler had another productive game going 3-4 with 2 RBI. The Generals catcher Andrew Schneider went 2-3 in the loss.

The Seahawks took a loss in the third game of the series Sunday 11-9. The Generals exploded with seven runs in the top of the third and never looked back. The Seahawks battled each inning to come back but ended up falling short. Sophomore starting pitcher Cameron Blankenship strugglef for the Seahawks going 4 IP and allowing 6 runs. Sophomore DH Davis Jenkins went 2-3 with 1 RBI in the loss for the Seahawks. Freshman left fielder Yordy Beltre also went 2-3 and added 2 RBI. Freshman catcher Garrett Worthington went 2-5 with 3 RBI that included his first career home run to left field. For the Generals, third baseman Andy Rivas went 2-3 with 1 RBI in the win. Second baseman Gabe Fellows went 1-4 with 3 RBI.

In the last game of the series, the Seahawks bats were on fire with a team total of 15 hits that helped them secure the win 15-7. Freshman catcher Garrett Worthington led the way with a terrific day going 5-5 with 3 RBI and scoring 4 runs. Freshman third baseman Lane Weismiller also had a productive game going 3-5 with 3 RBI. In the loss for the Generals, first baseman Andrew Schneider went 3-4 and scored 1 run. Left fielder Evan Collazo went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

The Cecil College baseball team next game is a double header Thursday, March 10th when they host Prince George's Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Brockell Field.
