Seahawks Pick Up Weekend Series Win with Three Victories Over Vikings

The Cecil College baseball team played their second series of the season Saturday and Sunday against Westchester Community College. The Seahawks battled all weekend and took three of the four games.

In the first game on Saturday, Westchester Community College jumped out with a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and earned the shutout in a 6-0 win against Cecil College. Sophomore pitcher Slothing Che got the start for the Seahawks but struggled going only 0.2 IP and giving up two earned runs and suffered the loss. Starting pitcher Thomas Mark earned the win for Westchester Community College, pitching all seven innings while only allowing two hits and striking out nine batters. Cecil's bats struggled in the opening game, only recording two hits throughout seven innings.

In the second game, Cecil's bats came alive with a team total eight hits in the 7-4 win. Sophomore third baseman Dante DiSabatino went 3-4 with one RBI and scored two runs. Freshman second baseman Nathan Fusco-Lomont went 3-3 for the Seahawks driving in a team high three runs. Freshman pitcher Kyle Stively was the starter for the Seahawks earning the win going 5.1 IP while allowing 4 earned runs and striking out seven. Catcher Anthony Dolce had two hits for Westchester Community College that included a home run to center field.

The Seahawks came out hot on Sunday defeating Westchester Community College 15-0 in five innings in the third game of the series. Cecil's bats were on fire going for 13 hits and taking control of the game quickly in the early innings. After the third inning, the Seahawks were up on the Vikings 11-0 before adding another four runs in the fourth. Starting pitcher Dylan Nickle was dominant in the win, pitching all five innings and allowing only three hits and striking out eight batters. Sophomore shortstop Nathan Ewing went 3-3 for the Seahawks with 3 RBI and scoring 3 runs. Sophomore first baseman Dante DiSabatino went 2-2 with 1 RBI and scoring 2 runs.

In the last game of the series, the Seahawks and Vikings were in a close battle. The Seahawks were in control most of the game until the Vikings made a late charge in the top of the seventh. However, Cecil held off the comeback and won the game 7-6. Starting pitcher Cameron Blankenship earned the win for Cecil going 6.2 IP allowing 6 earned runs and striking out seven with help from closer Vince Kershner. Sophomore shortstop Nathan Ewing went 3-4 with 1 RBI in the win. Freshman third baseman Lane Weismiller went 2-4 with 3 RBI that included a home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. Catcher Anthony Dolce went 2-3 with 3 RBI for the Vikings. Pitcher Matt Jacobson earned the start for the Vikings and struggled allowing 6 earned runs over two innings.

The Cecil College baseball team next game is a double header Thursday, March 3rd when they travel to Prince George's Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
