Baseball Opens Season with Series Loss to Delaware Tech

The Cecil College baseball team opened their season on Saturday playing a 4-game series against Delaware Technical Community College. Cecil took two losses in the first double header 11-6 and 14-5.

In the first game, Cecil jumped out to a quick start in the first inning scoring three runs. However, Delaware Technical Community College scored two runs each in inning two, three, and four to take a commanding lead and never looked back. Cecil bats struggled in the game only tallying 5 hits. Pitcher Jon Hines earned the win for Del Tech going 3.2 IP and picking up 7 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Kyle Stively took the loss for the Seahawks going 3.2 IP, 2 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts.

In the second game, Delaware Technical Community College had a huge second inning scoring seven runs and added another six runs in the fifth inning to earn the win. Freshman pitcher Dylan Byler suffered the loss for the Seahawks. Seahawk's shortstop Nathan Ewing went 2-3 with 3 RBI. For the Hawks, third baseman Sam Courtney went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

The Seahawks played their third and fourth games of the season in another double header Wednesday against Delaware Technical Community College. Cecil suffered two losses 9-3 and 2-1. In the first game, the two teams were in a tight battle before Del Tech opened up the game scoring two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. Sophomore pitcher Tyler Brown suffered the loss for the Seahawks. Freshman third baseman Lane Weismiller went 2-3 with 1 RBI in the loss. Freshman second baseman Dylan Byler went 1-3 with 1 RBI in the loss. Del Tech's right fielder Jonathan Golebiowski went 2-3 with 3 RBI in the win.

In the second game, both sides were in a very close game with Del Tech jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Seahawks scored the tying run in the sixth inning. However, Delaware Technical Community College scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. Sophomore pitcher Cameron Blankenship suffered the loss for the Seahawks going 2 IP giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run. Sophomore center fielder Rafael Solano went 1-3 in the game and scoring the only run for Cecil.

The Cecil College baseball team next game is Saturday, February 26th when they host Westchester Community College for a double header both Saturday and Sunday. First pitch for both days is scheduled for 12 p.m.
