Cecil College men's baseball opened their 2019 season with a loss in game one and a tie in game two to non-conference and non-region opponent Delaware Technical Community College (Georgetown campus) on Friday.
The Seahawks started the day hot, scoring four runs in the first two innings including a 3-run homerun by sophomore infielder Shawn Dulin. Dulin went two-for-four in the first game with three RBI's.
Delaware Tech scored four runs of their own in the opening two innings followed by an additional three runs in the third to put Cecil College down 8-4. The Seahawks were scoreless until their comeback attempt fell short in the top of the seventh, where they only scored one run for a final score of 8-5 in favor of Delaware Tech.
Cecil College scored five runs on four hits in the loss. Carlos Roman-Delgado and Reese Crounse recorded hits for the Seahawks while freshman short stop Hector Laguer completed a sacrifice fly for a single RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Jaily Paredes was given the loss after two innings pitched and five strike outs. Paul Layton came in relief and tallied another five strike outs while Andrew Imbierowicz closed the game allowing zero ones and recorded one strike out.
Cecil College crossed the plate seven times on four hits in game two of the day. Hector Laguer went one-for-three, hitting one over the fence and bringing in three RBI's. Michael Worthington successfully stole two bases for the Seahawks in the 7-7 tie.
Sophomore pitcher Zachary Strong got the start for the Seahawks and tallied six strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched. Kipp Hillson followed with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched and Andrew Imbierowicz closed with another scoreless inning for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks return to action for their home opener on Saturday, February 23 when they host Rowan College of Gloucester County for another non-conference and non-region double-header. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the second game to immediately follow.
