Seahawks Return to Even in Region XX DII Play

The Cecil College baseball team improved their Region XX DII record to 4-4 Tuesday with an important win over the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville in extra innings. The Seahawks moved up to occupy the fourth spot in the region division standings, out of nine baseball programs.

After scoring the game-tying run in the top of the ninth inning, the Seahawks were faced with a difficult situation in the bottom of the inning with bases loaded and no outs. Freshman pitcher William Lorman was able to retire the next three batters, forcing the game to extra innings. The Seahawks first out was a strike out from Lorman, followed by a ground ball to short stop Joseph Bagnerise III and firing it home catcher Giovanni Santiago to tag the running out at home plate. Cecil ended the regulation play with a line out to right fielder Jordan Yoder.

The Seahawks were able to bring Joseph Murray and Joseph Bagnerise III home in the the top of the tenth to end the rivalry. Bagnerise led the way statistcally for the Seahawks by going 4-for-6, including three doubles, one RBI, and scoring three runs. Freshman first basemen Tyler Robinson tallied three RBI, followed by Shawn Dulin with two RBI, including the game-winning run. Outfielder Jordan Yoder went 2-for-3 with three walks on the day and a stolen base.

Cecil College baseball returns to action with another pivotal Maryland JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DII match-up against the Knights of CCBC Essex. The Seahawks travel to CCBC on Thursday, April 12 for a single game started at 3:00 p.m.
