Baseball Loses Harford Battle in Extra Innings

The Seahawks faced off against the Fighting Owls on Thursday, losing the battle to their conference rivals by giving up a walk-off single in extra innings of game one and losing 9-2 in game two. Cecil College baseball falls to 6-19 overall and 3-9 in Maryland JUCO play.

The Seahawks were the first to show on the scoreboard, in the top of the second inning, off an RBI-single from outfielder Tanner Cebula, bringing Andrew Schutt home, who was walked to lead off the second inning. Harford was quick to answer back, resulting in a back-and-forth battle for the remainder of the contest. After a few scoreless innings, Cecil was able to break the tie with an unearned run. Joseph Bagernise III, on third from an earlier triple, was able to cross the plate as Shawn Dulin reached first off a Fighting Owls' error at first base.

Despite giving up five runs, including a two-run homer, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Seahawks answered back with four runs of their own. An RBI from Giovanni Santiago and Shawn Dulin put Cecil College within one. Jordan Yoder grounded out to shortstop, bringing Joseph Bagnerise home to tie the game at six.

The two teams were scoreless in the seventh, needing extra innings to break the tie. With bases loaded and two outs, the Fighting Owls' RBI-single scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Seahawks faced a slump in game two and were held scoreless by the Fighting Owls until the top of the sixth inning, while also facing quick 7-0 defecit. An two RBI-single from Tyler Robinson, bringing Shawn Dulin and Joseph Bagnerise III home, were the only scores for the Seahawks in game two.

Cecil College baseball will return to action on Tuesday, April 10 as they travel to CCBC Catonsville for a single game at 3:00 p.m.
