Thomas Picks Up Win in Split with Garrett

Sophomore pitcher Troy Thomas was able to pick up a win for Cecil College in game one of the conference doubleheader against the Lakers of Garrett College. After an extensive rain delay, the Seahawks were unable to carry the momentum into the second game. After the split including a 4-1 win and a 12-2 loss, the Seahawks fall to 6-17 overall and 3-7 in Maryland JUCO.

The Seahawks, with left-handed pitcher Troy Thomas on the mound, held the Lakers scoreless in the first five innings of game one on Saturday. Thomas only allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out five batters, throughout his five scoreless innings pitched. First basemen Tyler Robinson and second basemen Shawn Dulin crossed the plate for the Seahawks in the second and fourth innings to give Cecil College a 2-0 lead after five complete innings. William Lorman came in as relief after the delay and gave up two hits, including a homerun for the Lakers' only run, allowing Zachary Strong to enter the game for the save.

Sophomore designated hitter Andrew Schutt went 1-1 on the day with 1 RBI and found himself one base two more times after being walked. Other hits came from Shawn Dulin and Michael Worthington and an RBI from Joseph Munoz to help the Seahawks to a 4-1 victory in game one.

The Seahawks could not stop the hot bats of the Lakers in game two after giving up twelve runs on fifteen hits through five innings, before ending the game due to the mercy rule. Comparitively, Cecil College registered only two runs on three hits from Michael Worthington and Joseph Murray (2). Freshman pitcher Kyle Hodgson was given the loss in game two after giving up nine runs and two walks through 4.1 innings pitched.

Cecil College baseball returns to action at Brockell Field on Tuesday, April 3 to face the Riverhawks of Anne Arundel Community College in a MD JUCO match up. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
