Baseball Defeats CCBC Essex

North East, MD - Cecil College opened Monday's play in the championship round needing a win to force a second game against CCBC Essex. The Seahawks prevailed 11-10, but it was not without drama. The Seahawks scored an unearned run in the 1st, and an RBI by Joseph Zirolli in the second. Essex would put two up in the 2nd for a 2-2 tie, it would stay that way until the bottom of the 5th when Cecil would tack on 4 runs for a 6-2 lead Zirolli would lace a 2 RBI Triple off the centerfield wall, then  Richard Allen III would rip an RBI single before Taggart Hess added a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring. Essex wasn't going to go queitly as they added 2 runs in the top of the 6th to cut the lead to 6-4. Cecil would come back with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Dionel Infante would single, Anthony Jefferson then singled, Julian Lopez would then single again to drive in Infante, after Zirolli walked Jefferson and Lopez would score on consecutive wild pitches, Allen then closed the scoring with another RBI single for a 10-4 lead after 6. Cecil would then add an RBI single by Allen in the 7th which turned out to be the game winner as Essex would score 4 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th with the tying and winning runs on base when the final out was made. Edwin Lopez got the final out on a fly out to right field to end it. For the Seahawks Zirolli had 2 hits a base on ball and 3 RBIs, Allen had 3 hits and 4 RBIs, while Infante reached base all four times with 3 hits and a walk. With the win the Seahawks forced a second game with the chapionship on the line.
