Update from Director of Athletics In Regards to Indoor Sports

The following is a message from Director of Athletics, Ed Durham, in regards to Cecil College indoor sports:

After much deliberation and careful consideration, Cecil College has made the difficult decision to cancel indoor sports that were slated to take place in the Spring 2021 semester. Among the sports effected are the men's basketball, women's basketball, and women's volleyball teams at Cecil College.

Previously, these sports had been moved from their traditional seasons starting in the fall and/or winter, to the spring, with hopes of play beginning in February 2021. Unfortunately, because of the ongoing and everchanging COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was made to cancel these seasons for the safety of our student-athletes, staff, and everyone involved. We look forward to these teams returning to the court in the fall of 2021 as the vaccination process progresses and a hopeful return to normalcy sometime soon.

Cecil College Athletics will move forward with the competition of outdoor sports including baseball, softball, men's soccer, and women's soccer. We will continue to monitor the pandemic, as well as guidelines from the CDC and Cecil County Health Department, to assist with decision-making as these sports' seasons approach in late February. The soccer programs will return to their traditional season in the fall of 2021 after competition this spring.

Returning student-athletes should be in contact with their coach or athletic department staff member with any questions or about important return-to-practice guidelines. Propective student-athletes may reach out to the athletic department at athletics@cecil.edu.
