Student-Athlete Spotlight: Amya Mumford

Learn more about Amya Mumford in the latest Student-Athlete Spotlight. Mumford, a native of Princess Anne, Md. and a 2018 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School is currently in her first year as a forward on the Cecil College women's basketball team.

At the midpoint in the season, Mumford ranks third on the team averaging 14.0 points per game and is tied for first on the squad with 8.5 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 25 points in the Seahawks' win over Potomac State College of WVU and has tallied 154 total points thus far in the season.

What is your favorite course you are enrolled in this semester & why?

Math Fundamentals was easily my favorite course of the fall semester. My teacher was so helpful when I needed it and I was able to finish the course before the semester was officially over.

What is your favorite movie about sports & why?

My favorite movie about sports is "Love & Basketball" because it teaches you to never give up on what you love.

If you were stranded on an island, which one of your teammates would you want with you & why?

I would want Ty with me because she is very mature, talented & smart. She could help think of ways to survive until we got help.

Who is your favorite professional athlete & why?

Lebron James is my favorite. He's just an all around G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) and role model.

What is your favorite meal to eat for breakfast?

Waffles, toast, and scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon.

What is one thing on your bucket list?

I would love to go skydiving.

If you could have one super power, what would it be & why?

My super power would be to be able to read people's minds so I could understand what people are thinking without them saying it.

What is your dream occupation & why?

I would want to become a professional chef. I love to cook and bake!
